Pope Francis remembered that Christians are completely dependent on the Lord

Pope Francis invited worshipers at the Mass of Corpus Christi to “remember,” to never forget that Christians are completely dependent on the Lord. Only He has the nourishment that fills people with truth.

POPE FRANCIS
“Some feed on money, others with success and vanity. And others still with power and pride. But the food that truly feeds us and that nourishes us is what the Lord gives us.”

Pope Francis said that in addition to “physical” hunger, there other intangible types: the”hunger for eternity.” The search for material well-being, he highlighted, enslaves.

POPE FRANCIS
“At which table do I want to nourish myself? At the table of the Lord? Or do I dream of tasty foods, but in slavery?”

The Pope also explained that only Jesus can fulfill the “hunger for eternity,” because theEucharist is the bread that gives eternal life.

POPE FRANCIS
“Maybe we dream of other foods, like the Jews in the desert. They lamented over the meats and onions they ate in Egypt. But they would forget that those foods, they ate at the table of slavery.”

Once Mass outside the Basilica of St. John Lateran ended, participants joined theprocession of the Corpus Christi, through the streets of Rome, towards the Basilica of St. Mary Major. Pope Francis waited for them there to preside a solemn blessing, which concluded the celebration of the Feast of Corpus Christi.
